English in Riyadh, inside the Gulf's business world.
Saudi Arabia covers most of the Arabian Peninsula and is known for its vast deserts, oases and historic settlements. The official language is Arabic, and English is also widely used in business and international settings. Long-standing customs such as offering guests coffee and dates are an important part of its warm, hospitable culture, and you will come across them often in daily life.
Programmes are based in the capital, Riyadh, and focus on General English. Located in the centre of the country, Riyadh is a large city of modern business districts, wide avenues and shopping centres. Just outside the city, the historic Diriyah area offers a fascinating window onto the country's past through its mud-brick architecture, and makes a rewarding destination for a weekend trip.
English in Riyadh, inside the Gulf's business world.
While improving your English, you get to know Arab culture, traditions and daily life up close, combining language study with a completely different cultural experience.
Moving between Riyadh's modern towers and the historic mud-brick buildings of Diriyah, you can see the country's past and present within the same city.
Sand dunes and rocky plateaus around Riyadh add a very different experience of nature to city life, with weekend trips best planned for the cooler seasons.
Hot, dry desert climate: summers are very hot, while winters are mild and nights can turn cool. Rainfall is low, and sand and dust storms occur from time to time.
Riyadh is a spread-out city, so ride-hailing apps are a popular way to get around. Social life centres on cafés, restaurants, shopping centres and open spaces that come alive in the cool of the evening, and respecting local customs and etiquette makes everyday interactions easier.
