Europe
The heart of Europe, where Dutch and French are spoken side by side.
Belgium, in the middle of western Europe, is a multilingual country where Dutch, French and German are all official languages. Known for its historic squares, chocolate and comic-strip culture, it is small enough to get to know quickly. Brussels, the capital, is home to the main institutions of the European Union, which gives the city an international atmosphere where many languages and cultures are heard side by side.
Belgium is an interesting choice for anyone who wants to learn Dutch or French. Programmes focus on general Dutch and general French courses, and the locations are Brussels and the small town of Berlaar near Antwerp. Being able to choose between big-city life and a quiet town means you can learn the language in surroundings that match your own pace.
The heart of Europe, where Dutch and French are spoken side by side.
In Belgium several languages are used side by side, so while you hear the language you are learning every day, your ear also becomes familiar with others.
A dense rail network lets you travel comfortably between historic cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges, often there and back in a day.
In Brussels, home to European Union institutions, you meet people from many countries and experience multicultural city life at first hand.
Temperate maritime climate: mild summers and cool, damp winters. Rain is spread across the year and skies are often cloudy.
Trains link the cities, while the metro, trams and buses make Brussels easy to get around. Cafés on historic squares, comic-strip murals, museums and local markets are colourful parts of everyday life.
