About Italy

Italy, with its boot-shaped peninsula stretching from the Alps into the Mediterranean, its islands and thousands of years of history, is one of the cornerstones of European culture. Art, architecture, music and food are a natural part of everyday life. Italian, with its Latin roots and regular pronunciation, soon starts to sound familiar even to beginners and is a genuinely enjoyable language to learn.

Students who choose Italy mostly come to learn Italian. General Italian courses, programmes that combine lessons with cultural activities, Academic Italian and options for professionals lead the way. The cities are strikingly different: Rome, where history is woven into every street, Syracuse in Sicily, Tropea on the Calabrian coast and Trieste, a port city on the Adriatic in the north-east.

There are regular, short flights from Türkiye to Italy's major cities. Mediterranean food, the importance placed on family and warm social relationships help Turkish students feel at home fairly quickly. When choosing a programme, asking yourself whether you want the energy of a big city or the calm of a small coastal town makes it easier to find the right place for you.

Climate

The south and the coasts have a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Winters can be colder in the north and inland.

Student life

Cities are easy to get around on foot, by bus and by train, and the intercity rail network makes weekend trips simple. Evening strolls, long meals and meeting friends in the piazza are at the heart of Italian social life.
