About the country

About Spain

Spain, which covers most of the Iberian Peninsula, is a vibrant country with Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines, historic cities, and food and traditions that change from region to region. Spanish is the official language nationwide, and customs such as flamenco, tapas and late dinners set the rhythm of daily life. Because Spanish is spoken across a vast area of the world, the language you learn here will be useful in many countries.

Spain offers a wide range of cities for learning Spanish. Madrid and Barcelona bring big-city pace, Salamanca and Granada the feel of historic university and cultural cities, and Valencia, Málaga, Alicante and Marbella Mediterranean living. Alongside general and academic Spanish, there are exam preparation courses, activity-based programmes and, at some centres, General English courses.

From Türkiye there are direct flights to several Spanish cities, especially Madrid and Barcelona. High-speed rail lines link the major cities, so while studying in one city you can visit other regions, hear the different accents of Spanish and get to know the cultural variety of the country at first hand.

  • Many cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga and Salamanca
  • Programmes that blend language with culture, history and Mediterranean life

Why this country

Why Spain?

Learn one of the world's most spoken languages where it lives.

  • A language spoken worldwide

Spanish is spoken in Europe and across most of Latin America, so the language you learn in Spain lets you communicate over a very wide part of the world.

  • A city for every style

Those seeking big-city energy can choose Madrid or Barcelona, history lovers Salamanca or Granada, and anyone who loves the sea Málaga or Alicante.

  • Outdoor social life

Long sunny days, the habit of meeting in town squares and lively street life naturally give you more chances to speak Spanish outside the classroom.

Life and climate

SpainCapital: Madrid

Climate

A Mediterranean climate dominates the coasts, with hot summers and mild winters. Inland, in cities such as Madrid and Salamanca, summers are hot and dry and winters are cold.

Student life

Metro and buses make big cities easy to get around, and high-speed trains link them. The day runs late: dinner is eaten late and squares and terraces come alive in the evening. Local festivals add colour to city life all year round.
