Spanish among Havana's music and historic streets.
Cuba, an island nation in the Caribbean, has a distinctive culture shaped by its music, dance and colourful cities. Musical styles such as son, rumba and danzón have influenced Latin music around the world. Spanish is spoken across the island, and the Cuban accent, with its fast rhythm and unique expressions, is both challenging and rewarding for a language learner.
Cuba's General Spanish programme is in the capital, Havana. The squares and pastel-coloured buildings of UNESCO-listed Old Havana, live music drifting through the streets and the Malecón seafront turn the city into something like an open-air museum. For anyone who wants to learn the language surrounded by music, dance and art, Havana is a memorable choice.
Spanish among Havana's music and historic streets.
Salsa classes, live music venues and street performances in Havana let you learn Spanish right in the middle of the culture.
Old Havana's UNESCO-listed squares, classic cars and colourful façades offer a new corner to explore on foot every day and let you feel the city's atmosphere up close.
Getting used to the pace and expressions of the Cuban accent sharpens your listening, and conversations with local people reinforce what you learn in class.
The climate is tropical: May to October is hot, humid and rainy, while November to April is drier and milder.
Havana's historic districts are best explored on foot. Sitting by the sea on the Malecón in the evening, dance classes, live music and trips to places such as the Viñales Valley shape students' social lives.
